What Is Semax?
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide made from the ACTH(4–7) fragment combined with the stabilizing Pro-Gly-Pro sequence. Its amino-acid sequence is Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro.
It was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Russia as an intranasal neuroactive peptide and has been studied most extensively in regional neurology and neuroprotection research.
Semax was designed without the corticosteroid activity of full-length ACTH. Its proposed effects instead center on BDNF and TrkB signaling, monoamine modulation, neuroinflammation, antioxidant defense, vascular responses, and neuroplasticity.
