What Is Selank?
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide composed of seven amino acids: Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro. It was developed from tuftsin, a naturally occurring fragment of immunoglobulin G involved in immune regulation. Researchers added the Pro-Gly-Pro sequence to improve metabolic stability and create a peptide capable of producing central nervous system effects.
Selank was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Russia and is primarily described as an anxiolytic peptide with secondary nootropic and immunomodulatory research interest.
Unlike benzodiazepines, Selank is not designed to broadly suppress central nervous system activity. Research instead points to possible modulation of GABA-related signaling, enkephalin breakdown, monoamine pathways, neurotrophic signaling, and stress-related immune activity.
